Flying from London to Ibiza: tips and information for your trip

Ibiza, the little Balearic Island with the big reputation, has been settled for thousands of years. The Phoenicians of Carthage recognized the great strategic position of the island for their trade network in the Mediterranean. They built several cities, you can still see the ruins of one in Sa Caleta, which is also the location of a famous beach.

Island invasions: from the Romans to the hippies

The famous war between Carthage and Rome left Ibiza in the hands of the Romans for nearly 800 years until the Vandals conquered and plundered Ibiza. Byzantines, Moors and finally the Spanish followed as masters of the island. In the late 1960s Ibiza developed a reputation as a dropout’s paradise, so many Hippies from all over Europe settled here and started the image of Ibiza as a relaxed party island. This reputation is well earned, Ibiza has the world’s biggest dance club, and international DJs come here each summer to make thousands of tourists dance through the nights.

Relaxing at the beach

Apart from the never-ending party the most famous aspect of Ibiza are the fine beaches that lure tourists to Ibiza. More than sixty of them are scattered all along the coast, the most famous are the bigger beaches Ses Salines, Cala Conta, Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida and Playa des Aguas Blancas. But you can also find small coves and lonely bays with rocky cliffs. For scuba diving and snorkelling, the waters around Ibiza are the Shangri-La of the Mediterranean. Back on the surface, you should try some of the local specialties, which are centred around fish and seafood. Bullit de Peix, a fish stew, and Arroz a la Marinera, rice with seafood, are two of those typical dishes. A Crema Catalana makes the perfect dessert. We wish you all the fun in the sun, but don’t forget your flight back home to London!
