Frankfurt – Between Skyscrapers and History

Frankfurt, often called "Mainhattan," is renowned as a financial hub, boasting a skyline unique in Germany. But the city offers more than modern architecture and banks. The Schirn Kunsthalle captivates art enthusiasts, the Caricatura Museum invites smiles, while the Goethe House takes visitors on a journey through the life of the famous poet. Spring Fever and Golden Autumn – the Best Times to Travel to Frankfurt

The vibrant metropolis on the Main shows its softer side in spring. April and May are ideal for a visit, as the city parks are in full bloom and the mild weather invites you to take a walk along the banks of the Main or visit the Palmengarten. However, fall, from September to October, is also a wonderful time to explore Frankfurt. The temperatures are pleasant, the freshly harvested apples are used to make the famous Äppelwoi wine and the grape harvest begins in the nearby wine regions. If you want to experience the hustle and bustle of the city, don't miss the Frankfurt Book Fair in October, one of the largest in the world.

Plan Three to Four Days for the Highlights of the Hessian Metropolis

To get to know the city and really immerse yourself in the Frankfurt feeling, tourists should ideally take three to four days. During this time, you can discover the city's most important sights in a relaxed manner: the skyline, which is unique in Germany, the historic old town with the Römer and the Kaiserdom, as well as the Museumsufer with its diverse exhibitions.

Frankfurt's surrounding area is more leisurely than the city, but unforgettable experiences await you there too. For travelers who have a little more time, the following activities are available:

  • Day trip to the Taunus: just a short drive from Frankfurt, the Taunus offers beautiful hiking trails and historic castles, such as Kronberg Castle, which provide an insight into the history of the region.
  • Visit the Rheingau wine region: The landscape in the Rheingau is not only picturesque, but also produces excellent wines. A wine tasting in one of the many wineries or a walk through the vineyards is the perfect way to round off a trip to Frankfurt.
  • Excursion to Heidelberg: The romantic city with its famous castle ruins and old town can be reached in around an hour by train and offers a charming change from the modern metropolis of Frankfurt.
