What does Singapore taste like? The best place to find out is at the Lau Pa Sat market (also known as Telok Ayer market) in the Central Business District. There, in an old Victorian building, you will find numerous food stalls where you can sample both local and international dishes. The famous Satay Street, for example, offers Indonesian barbecue skewers in every conceivable variation. The food is then eaten at long wooden tables outside under the stars.

The octagonal, cast-iron structure of Lau Pa Sat, designed by James MacRitchie, adopted George Drumgoole Coleman's original octagonal shape for the older market.
