A Perfect Day: Cape Town in One Day

My day in Cape Town always starts early to make the most of my time in my favorite city. First, I have a flat white with oat milk at the Ground Art Caffe in the De Waterkant neighborhood. Cape Town is incredibly stylish in many areas. The interior of Ground Art Caffe is also decorated with much love and taste, so I enjoy sitting inside and savoring my coffee.

In the morning, it's worth hiking up Lion’s Head. The distinctive mountain, resembling a lion’s head, is located right next to Table Mountain. If you’re in good shape, you can complete the round trip, including a break, in two hours. At the summit, the reward is a spectacular panorama: I take a deep breath and let the view of Cape Town, the ocean, and Table Mountain sink in. An uplifting feeling.

After the sporty outing, I look forward to an avocado toast at the lovely Kanéla Café. I prefer sitting outside by the fountain in the courtyard, basking in the sunlight. Avocados taste particularly delicious in South Africa because they are native here.

With a rental car, I head south past Clifton Beach and along the Atlantic coast to Camps Bay and the famous Twelve Apostles mountain range. A quick stop for a photo is a must! From there, I continue on Chapman’s Peak Drive. The coastal road winds along steep cliffs with a new panoramic view around every corner.

Arriving at the beautiful Noordhoek Beach, it’s time for some sand between my toes. The eight-kilometer-long Noordhoek Beach is the most unspoiled and well-protected beach on the Cape Atlantic coast. Swimming is not possible due to the strong currents, but you can ride horses, surf, or have a picnic.

Of course, a perfect day in Cape Town would not be complete without a wine tasting. I love the wines from Buitenverwachting in the Constantia Valley, which have also been served in our First Class. “Buitenverwachting” is Dutch and means “beyond expectations.” And the winery definitely lives up to its name.

I drive back to Cape Town via Wynberg, thus circling Table Mountain. I take a break at Glen Beach to admire the sunset on the rocks. Glen Beach is a hidden gem for those seeking a relaxed beach atmosphere and a bit of peace from the bustling beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton.

To end the day, I treat myself to a regional steak at Butcher Shop & Grill. The natural fat content of South African beef is lower than that of beef from the USA and Europe, so the meat is never cooked beyond “medium” to prevent it from drying out. It tastes fantastic!
