Register an animal for carriage in the cargo hold
You can take your dog or cat with you on your Lufthansa flight as excess baggage in special transport containers in the air-conditioned cargo hold. We’ll check availability and make the booking for you no later than 72 hours before departure. If booking your pet is not possible, we’ll inform you by email. If your booking is successful, you must pay the fees incurred at check-in at the airport.
Since 01.08.2024 new restrictions have been put in place by the United States national public health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As a result, the entry regulations for dogs into the USA are changing:
- New bookings for dogs to the USA will only be accepted for the airports in Washington DC, New York-JFK, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
- Only dogs that are at least six months old will be accepted on trips to the USA.
- In addition, please complete the CDC Dog Import Form.
- You must present the confirmation from the U.S. authorities in digital or printed form when entering and departing the country.
If you do not fulfil the CDC requirements, you will be denied carriage.
The carriage of snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds of dogs and cats has been restricted since 1 January 2020.
