Flying from Vienna to London: tips and information for your trip
Prices are always shown for a round trip.
Your flight to London starts in Vienna International Airport, where trains, buses and shuttles arrive from Vienna downtown in a short ride. Settle down in your comfortable seat and enjoy the flight to London, whether it’s to Heathrow, London City or Gatwick. London has been central to all things English, starting with the Romans who considered the banks of the river a perfect place for a harbour. Anglo-Saxons and Normans both kept London as the capital and seat of the King of England.
London sightseeing: the endless list of landmarks
A great place to start a sightseeing tour is the iconic clock tower next to the British House of Parliament, known worldwide for the bell Big Ben. On the other side of the River Thames is the London Eye, the enormous ferris wheel, where you can get an unrivalled view over the city. You will see that Westminster Abbey is right next to the parliament, in this church the Kings and Queens of England were crowned and buried for over a thousand years. Important artists, scientists and politicians found their last resting place here as well. A lesser known beauty of London is the nearby St. James Park, where you can walk to Buckingham Palace through beautiful park areas along a big lake. With some luck you arrive in time to see the Changing of the Guards at the palace where the English Royals reside. The more famous Hyde Park with its Speakers Corner is also next to Buckingham Palace. The oldest Palace of Royalty was the Tower of London, built like a castle for William the Conqueror. It was also a famously dreadful dungeon and today is the strongbox for the crown jewels. Nearby is the Victorian Tower Bridge, another icon of London. Then there are Trafalgar Square with Nelsons Column, Piccadilly Circus and Old Bailey, Royal Greenwich Observatory and Hampton Court and many, many more famous sights.
Fashion, food and theatre
How about an extended shopping tour through London? There are the exclusive warehouses, thousands of glitzy boutiques and famous flea markets like Portobello Road or Camden Market to choose from. Visit Carnaby Street, where the fashion of „Swinging London“ made waves through the Sixties. Kings Road in Chelsea was the centre of Punk, with star designer Vivienne Westwood and her still existing shop as a main catalyst. Have a good cup of tea in a British tea room and decide about your evening entertainment: a musical in one of the Westend theatres? A Shakespeare drama in the authentic replica of the Globe Theatre? A tour through the clubs and bars in Soho? Whatever your idea of a great time is, London can deliver it in abundance.
