Register your pet for carriage in the cabin

You can take your dog or your cat with you in the cabin on your Lufthansa flight. We’ll check availability and make the booking for you no later than 72 hours before departure. If booking your pet is not possible, we’ll inform you by email. If your booking is successful, you must pay the fees incurred at check-in at the airport.

Important information for travel to the USA: 

Since 01.08.2024 new restrictions have been put in place by the United States national public health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As a result, the entry regulations for dogs into the USA are changing:

  • New bookings for dogs to the USA will only be accepted for the airports in Washington DC, New York-JFK, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
  • Only dogs that are at least six months old will be accepted on trips to the USA.
  • In addition, please complete the CDC Dog Import Form.
  • You must present the confirmation from the U.S. authorities in digital or printed form when entering and departing the country.

The carriage of snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds of dogs and cats has been restricted since 1 January 2020.

To snub-nosed breeds

Dogs and cats weighing more than 8 kg including their transport container may be carried as excess baggage in the aircraft’s air-conditioned cargo hold under certain conditions.

Register cat or dog

We’ll check for availability, and book carriage for your pet in the cabin for your next Lufthansa flight. If booking your pet is not possible, we’ll inform you by email. If your booking is successful, you must pay the fees incurred at check-in at the airport.

Conditions
  • New bookings for dogs to the USA with a flight date from 1 August will only be accepted for the airports in Washington DC, New York-JFK, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
  • Booking no later than 72 hours before departure (otherwise please contact the Service Center up to 24 hours before departure).
  • Available exclusively on flights operated by Lufthansa
  • Maximum dimensions of the travel carrier: max. 118 cm total size (55 x 40 x 23 cm)
  • Maximum weight: 8 kg (including the travel carrier)
  • The travel carrier must be softly padded as well as leak-proof, odour-proof and large enough for the animal to be able to stand in its natural position, as well as lie down and turn without any restriction.
  • Your pet is clean, healthy and doesn’t bother any passengers. It is neither dangerous nor pregnant and also doesn’t smell.
  • Lufthansa Express Bus: carriage at your own risk, no reservation required
  • Lufthansa Express Rail: carriage at your own risk, no reservation required
  • You are obliged to present the required health, entry and transfer documents at the airport.
  • The minimum age of the animal from/to Germany is 15 weeks, in all other countries 12 weeks.
  • Since 01.08.2024 only dogs that are at least six months old have been accepted for travel to the USA.
