A Perfect Day: San Francisco in One Day
Lying on the beach, cruising through the city, and watching sea lions – purser Florian Schwebel has a very clear idea of what his ideal day in San Francisco looks like
9 AM: Breakfast by the sea
To start my perfect day in San Francisco, I head to Java Beach Café close to Ocean Beach for breakfast. There’s something for everyone here: vegetarian bagels, vegan wraps, crispy toasts with Nutella or peanut butter. All very yummy. After this, I’ll get in my rental car and drive over the Golden Gate Bridge.
10 AM: Admire the skyline
You get a wonderful view of the Golden Gate Bridge from Lincoln Boulevard. I always enjoy driving along this route and stopping at the various viewpoints. Then I continue over the bridge for a stop at the H. Dana Bowers Rest Area & Vista Point. It’s breathtaking to admire the city’s skyline from here.
12 PM: Go for a hike
North of the city is the Muir Woods National Monument nature reserve. Coastal redwoods – the tallest trees in the world – grow there. Hiking is an absolute must!
2 PM: Enjoy the beach
Afterwards, I relax at Stinson Beach, the most beautiful beach in the region.

4 PM: Cruise through the city
I drive back to downtown over the Golden Gate Bridge. Since I’m already driving, I cruise down the famous Lombard Street.
6 PM: Watch the sea lions
I take the cable car to Fisherman’s Wharf. Even though it’s very touristy, you just have to see the 1,000 or so sea lions.
8 PM: Burgers, beer, and watching sports
I like to end the day in the Golden Gate Tap Room restaurant. It’s a typical American sports bar, with everything that comes with it: over 100 types of beer, huge burgers, and TVs showing football, basketball, hockey, and other American sports all evening. You can also get active by playing pool, pinball, or shuffleboard.
Tip:
Get out of the city, into the forest, and take a deep breath. On a guided tour through the Muir Woods National Monument, which you can book via GetYourGuide, you can admire the world-famous redwood trees and then get to know the coastal town of Sausalito on a panoramic bus tour.
