A metropolis that leaves an impression, São Paulo isn't just Latin America's financial hub. It's a city of superlatives and contrasts in every respect. Skyscrapers stand tall amid historic buildings, the vast green spaces of Ibirapuera Park are surrounded by the world's densest vehicular traffic, and an incredible culinary diversity beckons food enthusiasts from around the globe.

Lufthansa resumes nonstop flights from Munich to São Paulo starting December 2024, offering a fresh alternative to the existing Frankfurt – São Paulo route. The Airbus A350 will then cross the Atlantic directly from Munich to South America three times a week. When temperatures drop in Germany, São Paulo has a pleasant climate that is ideal for exploration:

In the Footsteps of Oscar Niemeyer

Neoclassicism meets colonial architecture, baroque religious buildings stand alongside modern glass facades – and the works of Oscar Niemeyer make São Paulo a magnet for architecture enthusiasts. The Brazilian architect is renowned for his organic forms and curves. Prime examples include the Edifício Copan, Edifício Eiffel and Edifício Califórnia. All buildings can be admired in their full splendor, as facade advertising is legally prohibited in São Paulo.

Ibirapuera Park

Take a breather and enjoy the tranquility of São Paulo's green oasis: After the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle, a brief respite in the sprawling Ibirapuera Park, also partly designed by Oscar Niemeyer, is refreshing. Paulistanos use the park for sports, strolls and leisure activities. You can rent bicycles or explore museums and exhibitions within the park.

São Paulo Museum of Art

With its striking architecture, the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) stands out in the cityscape. But there's also plenty to marvel at inside. The MASP is Brazil's foremost art museum, boasting an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures from the 14th century to the present.

Stay tuned for more insights into what the city has to offer, and the hotspots that locals recommend, soon to be unveiled in the Lufthansa Travel Guide.
