From the big picture to the small details – get to know Daniel MacInnes and the PriestmanGoode design team. Meet the Makers chatted to them about challenges, materials, and a living room above the clouds.

How challenging is it to develop a First Class Suite? Very! Especially when the outcome is rethought from the ground up and is supposed to be distinctive. Meet the Makers were able to see this for themselves and get to know the people behind the ideas about the Lufthansa Allegris First Class Suites. New shapes, unexpected materials, fresh thinking, and smart solutions – working with Lufthansa, the PriestmanGoode design team pushed many boundaries and opened up new possibilities. The result: a distinctive travel experience that makes passengers feel at home – as if they were in a comfortable living room.

Putting people at the center

The London design team of PriestmanGoode has worked closely with Lufthansa for almost 25 years. They know each other well here on Great Portland Street in the bustling City of Westminster. The common commitment to design and mutual trust are a great basis for offering First Class passengers an experience they have never had before – but not forgetting the familiar rose!

"It was about pushing boundaries. About designing a space in an aircraft that provides room and creates the feeling of home."

What is the vision of travel in the near future? Working with Lufthansa, the team around industrial designer Daniel MacInnes developed a clear image for First Class. They created a place to feel at ease, with new materials that don’t immediately make you think of aviation, but rather of a living room. A place with plenty of room for personal items and for small, smart details – such as well-thought-out shelves or design elements that blend charmingly and unobtrusively into the overall picture.

"Our aspiration: to think about and satisfy the individual and situational needs of our passengers at the design stage."
Ronald Wild, Corporate Design Manager Lufthansa

Lufthansa is one of the most famous German brands in the world – with an unmistakable design language. This coherent visual appearance is looked after by Ronald Wild and his Corporate Design Team. The holistic design approach is fundamental here – from the designers’ first concepts and sketches down to the last detail. And the high-quality design standards are noticeable everywhere. All elements are coordinated in a timeless, confident aesthetic – without catering to short-term trends.

The new Lufthansa Allegris First Class Suites set new standards for comfort and privacy in the aviation industry. Inviting colors, an exclusive selection of natural materials and the use of different structures and surfaces characterize our new First Class. With the unique Suite Plus, a separate double cabin is now also available. With high partitions, a closable door and plenty of room, it offers guests a huge amount of personal space.

Feels like home

Arrive and immediately feel at ease and welcome. This “feels like home” concept runs through the entire design of our new First Class. Many elements that are otherwise traditionally present in the cabin have been dispensed with. There is little metal, no cold contact surfaces and a sense of space that makes traveling together even more personal and individual – like a living room above the clouds.

New is always a challenge

Natural and semi-natural materials such as wool, leather, stone and wood create a harmonious atmosphere. But before they leave the ground, there are many hurdles to overcome. The design team pushed boundaries for Lufthansa Allegris – and created suites which in their appearance noticeably appeal to all the senses.
