Welcome on Board – Useful Information for Your Trip
Starting your trip
Check in with the airline that you are flying with first on your trip. You will usually then be given your digital boarding pass, including for your connecting flight with the partner airline.
Our tip: Use the airlines’ apps to check in and stay updated.
Travel classes
Signature Class? Premium Rouge? Air Canada sometimes uses special names for its travel classes. You will, of course, travel in the travel class that you booked – even if Air Canada refers to it by a different name.
Now you can take a look around at what comforts you can look forward to.
Inflight services
Air Canada offers an extensive range of food and drinks on board its domestic and international flights.
On board many of its aircraft you can also look forward to comprehensive and modern in-flight entertainment with international blockbusters, wi-fi and other services for a pleasant journey.
What you need to remember
Check your travel documents
Full and valid travel documents are essential. All the travel documents required are checked from the moment you enter Canada. Please find out about the entry requirements in good time.
Time for check-in and bag drop
With Air Canada, the times for check-in and baggage drop off vary by location. These also apply outside Canada. However, you can usually check in between 24 hours and 90 minutes before departure.
Please check the relevant check-in and boarding times beforehand.
Your baggage with transfers between flights
There are many destinations in Canada that you can get to with a stopover. You don’t need to collect your checked bags at your first point of entry, they will be forwarded automatically.
Please also check Air Canada’s baggage regulations.
The Air Canada and Lufthansa apps
Planning your trip, mobile check-in and useful services on the day you travel – the Air Canada and Lufthansa apps are your perfect travel companion and keep you informed about your flight at all times. Would you rather have one app than two? In this case, we recommend using the app of the airline you are flying with first on your trip.
FAQs on travel with Lufthansa and Air Canada
If you are using the Air Canada app for your Air Canada flight, this is where you will receive information at the earliest possible time about your connecting flight. Simply look in the app after your arrival at the transfer airport and make sure your device has an internet connection.
For Lufthansa flights, you will reliably receive information about your connecting flight with Lufthansa in the Lufthansa app.
Alternatively, please check the screens showing the departures at the airports. They are often located in the immediate vicinity of your connecting gate.
The terminals used by the airlines for arrival and departure may differ between airports and between international and domestic flights. We therefore recommend always checking the website of your departure and/or transfer airport beforehand to see which terminals are used by the airlines you are flying with on your trip.
If you have any questions or need support before you travel, please first contact the airline that you booked your flight with. For example, if you booked your flight via lufthansa.com, then this is Lufthansa.
Please note: To add on or request special services (e.g. special meals, special baggage, taking pets etc.) for a flight, you should ideally always directly contact the airline operating your flight.
In the event of flight delays or cancellations, you will be automatically rebooked by Air Canada and Lufthansa and notified via the contact details you provided (e. g. by email).
If you miss your connecting flight due to a delay, you will usually be automatically rebooked by the airline that caused it and also notified accordingly.
If you have not received any notifications or require any further support, you can contact our Service team at the airport at any time.
If you wish to request an upgrade for your flight with Air Canada, please note the following advice about upgrades on Star Alliance partner airlines:
- Please note that upgrades via miles or eVouchers can only be done if your flight booking was made on an Air Canada flight number. Upgrades cannot be booked on codeshare flights (Lufthansa flight number).
- For technical reasons, it is currently not possible to book upgrades on Air Canada flights online via milesandmore.com. However, you can make your request by telephone to your local Miles & More Service Team. Please have your Miles & More service card number and your Miles & More PIN to hand.
- The confirmation of an upgrade booking can then be made if there is availability in the designated booking class for flight awards in the next travel class up (Premium Economy, Business Class).
