Star Alliance Biometrics
Star Alliance’s biometric facial recognition system allows you to make your way through security, into the lounge and through the boarding gate quickly and with almost no contact. In the future, all it will take is a single glance from you – without a boarding pass or smartphone. As a passenger with a valid Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines flight ticket, you can take advantage of this service exclusively at Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Hamburg airports.
How to use the Star Alliance Biometrics service
In just a few simple steps on your mobile device, you have the option of registering with Star Alliance Biometrics and linking your boarding pass with your biometric profile.
1. Register with Star Alliance Biometrics
Registration takes just a few minutes. You will need your valid passport and the latest version of the Star Alliance app.
How to create your Star Alliance profile:
Launch Star Alliance app and give consent
In the Star Alliance app, consent to the collection of your biometric data and its use at the airport for identification purposes. Your biometric profile will be stored exclusively in the Star Alliance app on your smartphone.
Take photos
Take a photo of yourself that will later be used for identification at the airport.
Please also take a photo of your passport for a one-time comparison of your data and, if possible, have the chip read and then check if the passport details are complete.
Create profile
At the end of your registration, your details will be validated. You will then receive notification of your successful registration in the Star Alliance app.

2. Link your profile with your boarding pass in the Lufthansa app
Access the mobile boarding pass for your upcoming flight in the Austrian app and authorize the boarding pass to be linked to your biometric profile in the Star Alliance app via "Connect boarding pass". You can then use the biometric services for the selected flight.

3. How biometric identification at the airport works
You can identify biometric access points by the Star Alliance Biometrics logo above the gate and the corresponding floor markings. When you are standing at a biometric contact point at the airport, such as when entering security, at the lounge entrance or when boarding, all you need to do is look into the camera.
