Additional item of baggage and first item of baggage on an Economy Light fare: terms and conditions

Passengers have the option of booking additional items of baggage at reduced prices.

• Offer only applies to passengers who have a reservation for a Lufthansa flight number whose flight is operated by Lufthansa (or a wet-leasing partner) and who have a valid ticket – special conditions apply to the first item of baggage on Economy Light fares
• The additional baggage fee applies to a one-way flight (outbound flight) as far as a stopover landing or your destination and only to flights with Lufthansa flight numbers that are operated by Lufthansa (or a wet-leasing partner).
• The booked baggage must not exceed the Lufthansa standard weight of 23 kg and the standard dimensions of 158 cm. For baggage that exceeds the standard weight or the standard dimensions, the applicable excess baggage rate will be calculated at the airport.
• The baggage booking does not apply to the transport of animals (in the cabin or in the baggage hold) or sports equipment.
• Additional baggage can be paid for at the time of booking your flight or after booking up to one (1) hour before departure via your profile.
• Additional baggage can also be booked at the airport at a higher price.
• The number of items of baggage that you can book is restricted. Passengers can book up to two (2) additional items of baggage, but in total a maximum of two (2) items of baggage, regardless of the booking class.
• The booking fees are charged in the currency of the country you are departing from.
• Lufthansa reserves the right to change or to modify fares or the existing terms and conditions at any time without prior notice.
• Present the receipt for your additional baggage and the credit card used for the booking at the check-in counter before your departure. The receipt will be sent to you via email to the address stated during the purchasing process. Lufthansa is not responsible for lost or misplaced receipts.
• The additional baggage booking is only valid for the flight shown on the receipt on the stated date. If the flight is rebooked, the booked additional item of baggage is no longer valid, except under the circumstances described below under «Rebooking and refunds».
• Additional baggage bookings are not refundable except under the circumstances described below under «Rebooking and refunds».
• All baggage will be transported in accordance with the General Conditions of Carriage of Lufthansa.

Continental flights:

• When you fly with Lufthansa/SWISS/Austrian/Brussels Airlines on the Economy Light fare, your fare does not include any checked free baggage; however, Lufthansa offers you the additional benefit of a price reduction on the first item of baggage (23 kg, 158 cm dimensions). Applies only to passengers who have a reservation for a Lufthansa/SWISS or Austrian/Brussels Airlines flight number, whose flight is operated by Lufthansa/SWISS/Austrian/Brussels Airlines (or a wet-leasing partner) and who have a valid ticket for an Economy Light fare.
• Miles & More members with Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle status, as well as Star Alliance Gold members, enjoy higher free baggage allowances. However, the above-mentioned benefits do not apply to flights on the Lufthansa Economy Light fare.

Intercontinental flights:

• On some flight routes*, you will benefit from reduced rates for a second item of baggage (23 kg, 158 cm dimensions) on the Lufthansa Economy fare.
• When you fly with Lufthansa/SWISS/Austrian/Brussels Airlines on the Economy Light fare, your fare does not include any checked free baggage; however, Lufthansa offers you the additional benefit of a price reduction on the first item of baggage (23 kg, 158 cm dimensions). Applies only to passengers who have a reservation for a Lufthansa/SWISS/Brussels or Austrian Airlines flight number, whose flight is operated by Lufthansa/SWISS/Austrian/Brussels Airlines (or a wet-leasing partner) and who have a valid ticket for an Economy Light fare.
• Miles & More members with Frequent Traveller, Senator and HON Circle status, as well as Star Alliance Gold members, enjoy higher free baggage allowances. However, in this case and on these flight routes, the reduced booking fee for the second item of baggage does not apply; the regular price for additional baggage bookings applies to each additional checked item of baggage. However, the above-mentioned benefits do not apply to flights on the Lufthansa Economy Light fare.

• infants under 2 years
• flights offered or operated by airlines other than Lufthansa (for exceptions, see «Continental flights»).

• Additional baggage bookings can be transferred where there is a change to an existing booking (subject to the applicable fare regulations), but not to another flight route, other passengers or other airlines.
• Additional baggage bookings are refundable:
  • if Lufthansa is not in a position to transport your baggage due to a change of aircraft, cancellation or interruption to a Lufthansa flight or
  • if your baggage cannot be transported for operational or security reasons that are not attributable to the passenger’s actions or omissions.
• Additional baggage bookings are not refundable if the flight is cancelled by the passenger.
• Refunds are made via the original method of payment used.
